Food Colouring in Water: Testing Experiment
Aim
The following experiment aims to test part of the hypothesis: Evaporation occurs because the little pieces of liquid are moving and therefore some are able to escape from the surface of the liquid by the fact that they are moving. If this model is correct, what do you predict would happen if a drop of food colouring is placed in a beaker of water? What do you predict would happen to the colouring if the pieces of liquid were not moving?
Prior Knowledge
- Models of evaporation.
Description of the Experiment
A drop of food colouring is placed in a beaker of water. Predict what will happen to the colouring based on a model that the little pieces of liquid are moving. What do you predict would happen if the little pieces were not moving?
